Lawrence Moore
I began as an illustrator and printmaker at Camberwell Art School, then went on to the Royal College of Art film and television school in London. There to my amazement, my first film about artist Michael Rothenstein, won the College's coveted silver medal. I married Sally Zane soon after and we produced two children, Adam and Myfanwy, who have become media people in their own right.
Denis Mitchell, one of Britain's leading documentary film-makers asked me to direct for his series This England, and since then, through slog, luck, penury and sheer bloodymindedness I've made some 100 productions. I joined up with a group of friends in the late 7'0s to develop interactive productions - in fact we pioneered the Grolier Encyclopaedia on laser disc. (What's that?) The problem was that no-one told us the world wasn't ready for our pioneering zeal so we each went our seperate ways.
Now, armed with a digital camera and a kind of new sense of freedom, Sally and I are making our own films in a possibly misguided attempt to bring back a little creative ooomph into our lives.
