One of the fascinating aspects of our British landscape are the megalithic remains dotted all over the countryside. Of course we're not alone in this - France, Malta, the Channel Islands, Africa, and others all have past civilisations who recorded their culture permanently in stone. There are those for whom the stones represent a rational insight into astronomy, measurement and priestly/political ritual. Others believe they are something altogether more magical, possessing qualities whose true nature can only be intuitively recognised. Stone is a mineral and many of them contain high proportions of quartz, which when placed under pressure, gives off an electrical charge. This in itself is not unusual - the piezo-electric qualities of the mineral have been used for watches, gas lighters and a host of other technological applications. Some research (The Dragon Project) has shown that quartz-rich standing stones may well be affected by the gravitational effects of the Moon, and other planets when they come into powerful alignments. May 2000 will be just such a time, and it would be intriguing to research the effects of this on some of our stone circles. Here is a small gallery of some megalithic pix.

Two galleries here. One is the Megaliths Gallery, the second is the British Legendary Landscape gallery.
They're more pictorially biassed than megalithically technical. For a deeper insight into alignments, astro-archeaology and those for whom trekking across sphagnum mossy moorlands in search of elusive standing stones is a way of life, do follow the WEBRING link below .
Encouraged by some WebRing members, I'm including a page with some megalithic cartoons, dreamed up at odd periods of inactivity. Click this to see them.
Boringly, we have to remind you that these are our copyright, and are not allowed to be used commercially. If you want them for that purpose, please let us know and we'll licence their use to you.
