Claims of having seen The King are now a major component of urban legends and contemporary humor in the United States as well as the rest of the world. The reasons for the rise of the Elvis sighting as a pop-culture genre are not yet clear, and the sociology of sighting Elvis and the psychology of Elvis sighters will surely be rewarding fields of study for the researcher who is strong enough to stomach a sea of Pepsi and brave enough to endure the touch of oil on velvet.
Because those who claim to have seen Elvis are too numerous to count accurately, as are the claims themselves, VIVA ELVIS has started with an overview of what we believe are the more well-known websites and pages that are out there. Our ultimate goal is to list as much sightings material as possible.
Publications that Report Sightings
There are tabloids that thrive on news of Elvis sightings and they enjoy great popularity despite the lack of credibility that characterizes them. Two such periodicals are the Sun and the Weekly World News, both of which everyone has seen while standing in line at the check-out counter (and which everyone half-heartedly tries to ignore).

Books on sightings
- The Elvis Sightings by Peter Eicher. This is the standard reference for Elvis-sighting techniques and the history of Elvis sightings.
- Elvis in disguise at The Million Man March? That's one of the claims of Where's Elvis?: Documented sightings through the ages by Dan Klein and Hans Teensma. An interesting book more interesting is the discussion between the authors and the reviewers on Amazon.com's web page for this title.

- The Elvis Presley Memorial Trauma Center: not just for those who have seen The King in person... it's also internationally recognized for its research and patient care in the area of trauma in the emergency room.
