Despite the media's extensive coverage of his death in 1977, there are those who claim that Elvis Presley faked his demise and that he has been in hiding ever since. Many also claim his disappearance is a government cover-up. Why not? We Americans love conspiracy theories and urban legends.

Some may consider Elvis sightings to be sterotypically low-brow material for those tabloid publications whose headlines they pretend not to scan while standing in line at supermarket checkout counters. Yet, when one sifts through the piles of chaff, one begins to find grains of evidence and to consider seriously whether Elvis isn't still alive...

Evidence That Elvis Is Alive

Elvis: Dead or Alive?— "I say Elvis did not die on August 16, 1977. Can you prove me wrong?" is the challenge that greets you when you arrive at the website of Mickey Moran. On several pages Moran offers what he believes is evidence that Elvis Presley is still alive. The site also has a "Dead or Alive?" forum, an electronic bulletin board where visitors can post messages and discuss the evidence. Although some of the evidence appears to be have been quoted verbatim from other websites, there is also a lengthy bibliography of all the books Moran has used to support his theories.

Evidence That Elvis Is Dead

"Who killed the King?": an essay by Robyn Taylor, an astrologer who believes that Elvis must be dead because his natal chart shows that he was destined to die when he did. Robyn deciphers the positions of the stars and planets as they relate to Elvis' chart. She also tells you which two planets killed Elvis.

In August 1997, as Elvis fans everywhere observed the twentieth anniversary of Elvis' death, reporter Bill Hance of the Nashville Banner recounted where he was and how he reacted when he heard the news. In his article, Bill Hance confirms that it was Elvis who was lying in the casket: "I just kinda stood there looking at him. He's definitely dead, I know it's him."

Fence-sitting: "You Tell Me"

Elvisaronpresley.com devotes a page to the question of "Did Elvis Really Die?". Interestingly enough, there is no discussion of evidence and the author proposes no answer. The author's words seem to imply the page is still under construction: "Here I will present evidence for you to examine, and then come to your own conclusions."

We suggest you check later with Elvisaronpresley.com to see if anything new is added. The author also asks you to send him e-mail on whether or not you believe Elvis is truly dead.
