Crystals
This page has a number of definitions and listings of the properites of differnt crystals and gems. It starts with the charging of a crystal in the simplist fashion. I personaly like to hold a crystal in the breaking surf by the light of the full moon or in a clean running stream to charge it, but that is not always possible for everyone. This method works fine.
Charging Your Crystal
Cleanse the crystal (running water for 20 min, or left out in sunlight
or moonlight for a period of time) to remove any negative energy. Hold
the crystal between your hands and concentrate on the feelings that
you wish the crystal to retain. Do this for about 20-30 min or until
you feel that you have drawn enough energy into the project. Project
these feelings into the crystals. You should feel a faint hum from the
crystal while you are doing this.
When you are finished ground yourself to remove any excess energy that may remain afterwards. The crystal should now be charged with the energy that you wish.
Saphires - Are said to dull if your lover is cheating on your and are
more intense in color when given by your true love.
Rubies - Usually associated with "Christ's Blood" folklore. Maybe
innapropriate for Pagans :)
Aquamarines - Said to be made from Sea water by Faires. Worn for good
luck by sailors.
Alexandrite - Supposidly discovered on the coronation day of
Alexander II. A very expensive and rare stone, it changes color
with different light sources, most dramatice change can be seen
under black light as it goes from a purple-grey to a light green.
Suposed to bring good fortune during the day, and increase amourous
feelings at night.
Amber - Greek legend holds that two sisters convinced their brother,
a greek god, to race in a chariot ride that proved fatal. As
punishment they were turned to trees and amber is their tears,
hardened by the sun. Thought to bring cure to soar throats, and
save the wearer from being poisoned.
Amethyst - Greeks believed drinking out of a cup with amethysts
on it would keep you from getting drunk. Also said to protect
you from overeatting. Used to symbolize protection of the family,
as well as humility and sincerity. It protects the wearer from
treason and lies, prevents baldness, and keeps away nightmares.
Aquamarines - Greeks thought it was made from sea water and water
nymph tears. Sailors kept them to keep the seas calm during
travels. Romans thought aquamarines aided in ending wars, and
carved frogs out of the stone, believing the talisman would make
their enemies friends. Christian myth has it that it gives you
power over the devil, and if you put the stone in your mouth,
you cannot be lied to. Said to keep marriage happy, and if you
break up with your mate, will help to reconcile you. Used to
be put in a crib to keep babies safe.
Citrine - Protects the bearer from plague, acne, and wards of
snakes.
Coral - Egyptians believed it warded off the "Evil Eye", and was
(snicker snicker :) ) kept men safe from falling to the ways of
witches, and women free from the evils of warlocks. (Oh My! Hope
my SO doesn't hear abou this... Oh.. I forgot - he's Wiccan too.
Better toss out my coral earrings then.) Romans made their
children wear coral necklaces to keep them safe from evil.
Believed to aid women wanting to get pregnant.
Emeralds - Christian myth says that when Lucifer was cast from heaven
an emerald fell from his crown and was later carved into the
Holy Grail. (Which makes me wonder what Druid legends there are
about it.) Believed to aid vision, people with eye problems were
advised to stare into emeralds to rest their eyesight and improve
vision. Believed to improve memory and prevent diabetes. If
kept under a pillow, you would dream about the future. Makes
the wearer more honest
Garnet - In my first post, I said that Ruby was usually associated
with "Christ's Blood" legends, but I was mistaken :O Its the red
garnet that is associated with them, since its brownish hue makes
it look like dried blood. Hebrew legends said Aaron's breastplate
was made from garnets and the Koran says that garnets are used
to illuminate the Forth Heaven. Garnet was believed to let travelers
at night see and ward off nightmares and poison.
Jade - Used by religions all over the world for carving religious
statues and figures, and ceremonial items like knives were carved
from it by pagans. (My notes don't say which pagans or sects.)
Bearer is gifted with pure thoughs and long life.
Opal - The story about opals that gave it the bad rep is Sir
Walter Scott's "Ann of Geirstein" where the heroine buys a cursed
opal and later dies. Before that, blond women used to buy the
opal since it was believed to keep their hair from getting dark.
Current folklore says someone not born in October (Birthstone is opal), wearing it has bad luck.Also believed to allow the wearer to be invisible.
Peridot - Said to ward off evil, terrors of the night, and bad dreams.
The best way to ward off evil though, was to string peridot on
the hair of a mule and wear it on your right sleeve. Said to
cure sinus infections.
Ruby - (Just a side note, a Ruby is a red sapphire. Sapphires
come in all colors.) Believed to be magical if flawless. In
India it was believed that offering flawless rubies to Krishan
garunteed the person to be reincarnated as an emperor. Rubies
should always be admired when seen, because it was believed that
if you ignored a ruby, it dulled in color. Russians believed it
cured diseases of the blood.
Sapphire - Legend is that the Ten commandments were engraved on
Sapphire. Wearing a sapphire acted as an antidote against poisoning
and if rubbed on a wound would stop bleeding. If given to a mate
it would dull if you were ever unfaithful. If a wicked person
wore it, it wouldn't shine and would crack.
Spinel - It was used in the 18th century to find out if someone
had "supernatural" powers. If you approach a witch with it, she
would start to shake - thereby revealing her.
Topaz - Egyptians thought they were made by Ra the sun god.
St. Hidegard prescribed putting topaz in wine and then drinkig
the wine to cure eye problems.
Zircon - protects travelers from harm and stops wounds from getting
infected. Gave wisdom in financial matters to make you richer.
If you wanted to counter a spell cast on you, you were to bake
bread, then rub the zircon on the top of the bread and eat it.

for food, tobacco, drugs, alcohol, etc) calms an overactive mind,
increases self-esteem, aids sleep.
Apache Tears : Pluto. Grounding. Transforms and aids in the release of
lower emotions.
Aquamarine : Neptune. Tranquility, sooths the heart, inspires compassion.
Adventuring (Green Quartz) : Venus, Uranus. Joy, balance, clarity.
Azurite : Saturn. Development of intuition, understanding and
communication of Universal Law.
Bloodstone : Earth. Physical healer, mental balancer, removes toxins from
blood, aligns energies along spinal column.
Blue Celestite : Neptune. Opens one up to the angelic realms. For
detachment, clear perspective, divine inspiration.
Blue Topaz : Mercury, Uranus. High electrical charge. Focuses and clears
the mind, opens one to inspiration.
Carnelian : Saturn, Earth. Sacred to Isis. Protective, aids concentration.
Access to past life data. (orange in color)

Topaz : Mercury. Bridge between higher and lower consciousness. Assimilation
of abstract information.
Tourmaline : Black - deflects negativity. Very protective.
Green - Refines, strengthens, directs will.
pink - love and sacrifice, devotion.
watermelon -= corrects imbalances, eases guilt.
Tourmalinated Quartz : Pluto, Uranus. Deflects and eliminates negative
conditioning patterns.
Torquoise : Venus, Moon. Symbol of the sky. Works on respiratory system,
helps manifest spiritual qualities on the physical plane.
CRYSTALS & STONES
Gemstones have been used for centuries as meditational aids and magical
magical foci. Each individual type of stone has different properties. Here
are some healing and spiritual properties from a list I have. These
descrioptions are based on ancient legend and lore:
AGATE: Moss Agates considered to be most powerful. Aid in
restoration of energy, used in healing, and believed to
wearer happiness, wealth, health, and long life. Increases
ability to ward off self-induced anger and inner
bitterness. Carnelian-gives protection and energy. Moss
green-balances emotional energy. Moss red-balances
physical energy. Blue lace-gives tranquility.
Amber: Powerful healing stone with large amount of organic energy.
In ancient times, ground to a powder and mixed with honey
or oil of roses for various physical problems. Filters
germs and infections and has the power to disinfect. Worn
around the neck to help fight infection and respiratory
diseases. Lifts the spirits.
Apatite: Promotes communication and mental clarity.
Amethyst: Increases spiritual awareness, has a calming and soothing
influence, has the ability to transmute negative into
positive, and is very effective as a healing stone.
Warmed and placed on the forehead and temples, it is good
for headaches. Has the ability to draw through it forces
directed towards the body and repels vibrations which the
body doesn't need, thus releasing only the energy patterns
beneficial to the body. Best worn in healing near the
heart center. Opens up spiritual and psychic centers.
Helps prevent drunkeness.
Aquamarine: Calms nervous tension. Calming effects of the sea. Used
to help banish fears and phobias. Means seawater.
Soothing and cleansing.
Adventurine: Increases perception and creative insight. Stimulates
opportunity and motivation.
Azurite: Powerful healing stone, invokes spiritual guidance, opens
psychic eye. Good for dreams and improving psychic
ability.
Bloodstone: Stimulates flow of energy for healing blood circulation,
stops hemorrhaging. Removes emotional blockages.
Citrine: Stimulates openness and accelerates the awakening of the
mind. An aid to the digestive system. Helps eliminate
toxins. Encourages tremendous healing on the emotional
and mental levels, helps unblock subconscious fears, and
serves as a natural relaxant.
Coral: Balances physical energy and relaxes tensions. Carries the

mundane. Most revered by the Chinese.
Jasper: For energy balancing of emotions and stress.
Flourite: Opens and softens the way for the use of other stones.
Excellent used in aquariums-provides needed minerals.
Lapis Lazuli: Stimulates wisdom, truthfulness, & psychic experiences,
healing and strengthening when worn next to the skin.
Strengthens mind and body to spiritual awareness.
Malachite: often used as a child's talisman to sleep soundly & protect
from bad dreams. Stimulates clear vision and insight,
represents hope and inner peace, believed to protect from
danger. Increases abundance in all areas of life.
Moonstone: Brings good fortune. Reflects the wearers being and
feelings. Promotes unselfishness. Opens the heart to
humanitarian love and hope. Good for protection while
travelling on water. Gives clarity to spiritual
understanding. Good for pre-menstrual symptoms and
balancing to the reproductive system. Used to ease
childbirth.
Pearl: Stimulates feminine qualities, used to focus attention,
helps pull together mental and spiritual forces, peace of

chakra. Very potent and often worn to protect from
negative vibrations. Cleanse regularly. Rudilated-rutile
needles help focus attention. Smoky-good for calming the
mind. Rose-vibrations of universal love & inner serenity.
Ruby: Increases vigor, renews vitality and cleanses the blood.
The stone of courage.
Topaz: Calms emotions, protects against external stresors. To
restore physical energy & quiet emotional nature.
Tiger Eye: Very powerful protection, clarity of thought.
Tourmaline: Causes the wearer to be more flexible, more understanding
and more objective in purpose and reason. Calming. Each
person has a different response to this stone. Causes a
reaction in the intestinal tract. Black and
Crystal-removes negativity and cleanses. Some say it
should not be worn as jewelry. Electric and magnetic
properties.
Turquoise: Vibrates calming radiations, protective, and restores
healthy mental attitude. Stone of friendsship. Balancing
and healing. Great strength and vitality. Takes on
characteristics of the wearer.
