Gathering the
materials Before you make your book, you will need to gather
a few materials. These books are made of familiar and readily available
art, craft, and sewing supplies. To locate a shop, you may wish to use the
Yahoo Yellow Pages.
Here
is a list of the supplies you will need:
From the fabric store:
Fabric for the outside covering, at least 12 inches high by 15 inches
wide
1/2 yard of heavy-duty
paper-backed fusible webbing
Heavy weight
thread
A small sewing
needle
A large, sharp needle —
I use a yarn darner
From the
arts and crafts store:
2 pieces of matting
board, cut to 5½ by 8¾ inches. Framing shops usually have scraps of
matting board which are perfect for this purpose and they may even give
them to you for free.
Craft glue — any kind
which dries clear and flexible. Glue guns and glue sticks are not
suitable
From the office supply
store:
25 sheets of 8½ by 11
inch paper. I like the slightly heavier 22# paper, but standard copier
paper works well.
2 sheets of 8½ by 11
inch card stock or cover stock paper
From around the house:
A standard file folder — the inexpensive manila type is easiest to
use
A ruler or
yardstick
An iron and an ironing
board
