Notes from Chattahoochee Valley PFLAG meeting for November 8, 199
Facilitator: Ray
Ray started the meeting at approximately 7:40.
Introductions were made.
Ray started the meeting off by talking the future of PFLAG. Ray read the notes from the last PFLAG meeting that was held for members only. The notes are as follows:
Ron is in charge of getting a facilitator for each meeting..
Ray is in charge of programming. (guest speakers, an agenda, topics etc...)
Kay is in charge of finding someone to bring refreshments to each meeting.
Frank & Ron are the coordinators and head of Chattahoochee Valley Pride Association.
Chattahoochee Valley Gay Pride is the first Saturday in June at Pasaquan.
Emily discussed the idea of PFLAG adopting and AIDS child for Christmas. This idea was voted upon and decided that PFLAG will adopt one AIDS child for Christmas. Reasons being it is for a worthy cause and also good public relations.
Sy discussed his meeting with Guy Sims (School Superintendent): Reported that he had to call three teachers to him because of the improper handling of gay students. Sy and Guy spent over an hour drawing up a plan for the schools RESPECT FOR ALL. Guy showed the video to all his Principals.
Group discussing about the Jerry Falwell and Mell White meeting that was held with 200 Falwell people and 200 gays and lesbians. Discussion of contacting Soul Force to get this information to local churches about this meeting.
Group discussion of starting a Columbus Gay list serve.
Jason is to contact Carole each month giving her updates on what went on at the last meeting.
Group discussion of how to get the word out about PFLAG and get more attendance and participation:
PFLAG become more active in community.
Distribute flyers at local bar and colleges.
Donating time to help local homeless shelters and shut ins for the holidays.
World AIDS Day is December 1st. Network aids is having a march with a message afterwards.

Meeting continued approx. 15 minutes later.
A plate was passed around the room for donations. $31.00 was collected.
Ron commended Ray for an excellent job on conducting meeting. Group agreed.
Sy was commended for his excellent job with the school board.
The group watched video It's Elementary.
