November 13, 2000 Chattahoochee Valley Meeting Minutes

                I.   The meeting was opened by Ron Mask, Facilitator, who reviewed the purpose

                     of the organization and made introductory remarks.  Persons present

                     introduced themselves. 

 

                II.  Representatives from local GLBT organizations present were asked to report.

                      These included Emily Bel, Family of God MCC; Frank Lovejoy, Columbus

                      Gay Pride Association; Mac Whitehurst, Anchored in Christ Ministries.

 

                III.  Election of officers was finalized.  Recommendations made by the election

                       committee were presented without opposition.  New officers were as follows:

                       President, Emily Bel; Vice President for Outreach, Sy Zimmerman; Secretary/

                       Treasurer, Bob Slaughter; Direcotr of Finance, Steve Brown; Facilitator, Ron

                       Mask.  The following positions were filled which provide a voice on the board

                       but no vote:  Director of Youth Outreach, Eva Glasglow; Webmaster, Frank

                       Lovejoy; and Webmaster, Jason Price. 

 

                IV.  Several committees were developed and volunteers were solicited for each

                       committee.  Volunteers were requested for checking voice mail, helping Eva

                       make signs for the Love Walk, helping Frank stuff/seal envelopes, and

                       for developing the booth for the diversity fair for next year. 

 

                V.  Our guest speaker, Shauna Hartley, Director of the Victim Protection Agency,

                      spoke to the group concerning domestic violence.  She indicated it was the

                      purpose of her office to assist abused persons and to train police concerning

                      protecting victims regardless of sexual orientation.  She discussed the cycle of

                      abuse, reasons behind abuse and persons refusing to report abuse, and

                      particular difficulties for persons of our community in dealing with acts of

                      violence.  Several protective agencies she suggested persons contact were

                      The Columbus Alliance for Battered Women; Georgia Legal Services,

                      Children’s Tree-House, The Family Center, Victims Compensation, Contact,

                      and Damascus Way. 

 

                VI.  The previous treasurer requested donations from participants.

 

                VII.  The meeting was closed by Ron Mask, Facilitator.
