I have two labrador retrievers: A chocolate named Molly, and a black named Annie. Both female, both AKC-registered, both seniors, both spayed. I showed Molly in breed competition for a while and we actually won a few! UPDATE: Molly recently left this world at 14+. Here's a memorial page I put together for her.
My thing to do with them was obedience training. I trained Molly to win the first level of AKC-sanctioned obedience titles (a CD) and was training for the next level (CDX) when we discovered she had severe hip dysplasia. No more jumping! So training for a CDX was out.
I had just started working on training Annie when I got sick. The major after effect of the encephalitis is lack of motor control, which makes walking difficult, much less training a dog! Nevertheless, I've trained her to be a Service Dog. We're certified as a team through "Pets and People: Companions in Therapy & Service", both as a Service Dog team and as a Therapy team. Annie's finally old enough that her replacement is in training and actually working in public, courtesy of Aridawn Kennels (Patty Martin). I've got a Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Michael working on his schooling to be my next Service Dog (well, he helped me with my schooling, too, by working as my Service Dog as I attended grad school at Mississippi State).
Things seem to have come full circle -- I started my formal career as a programmer and moved into technical writing. Now I'm returning to work as a programmer/analyst in the computer center of the University of South Alabama.
I read a lot. My taste in literature, like my taste in music, covers a wide spectrum--everything from Business 2.0 to the latest Anne Rice; and country to Melissa Etheridge. That covers a lot of ground!
I do own a PC and am fairly active on the World Wide Web. Some of my friends call me a Web Goddess (which I, of course, discourage <evil grin>...)
Recently, I've started back on my spiritual journey. Although raised and active for years as an Episcopalian, I've also been a member of an Assemblies of God church. Having explored a non-traditional goddess-centered path, I think the pendulum is swinging more toward the middle. I'm happy to be worshiping at a small Episcopal mission in Alabama. Of course, I still want to build a labyrinth in the back yard!
If you share any of my interests, want to know more, or just want to chat, write me! No solicitations, please.
